Domestic abuse is a problem that transcends all faiths, genders and demographics

Fiona Flower and I originally forged a friendship online, although we have now met in person several times. I discovered her work supporting survivors of domestic abuse for a charity and invited her to look at my script, ‘Chains’ and give her views. Here she writes a little about that.
Francesca and I first met online on a parenting portal many years ago. I had no idea originally that she had a strong desire (and ability) to write and produce work based around her Jewish faith exploring the struggles of relationships within it.
I was taken aback at just how powerful the original reading of Learning was; all done via Zoom in the lockdowns we experienced during Covid. When it eventually arrived on stage, it was every bit as good as I remembered…actually, even better!
Francesca approached me a few months ago asking for my thoughts on her script for Chains. I volunteer for a domestic abuse charity and so have first hand experience of the kind of scenarios that bring marriages and relationships to crisis point. I help survivors get back on their feet after the abuse and out into the world again.
It’s a problem that transcends all faiths, genders and demographics. It’s more common than any of us would like to admit, and I admire Francesca for dragging the issue out of the dark and into the light. I wish her and the cast every good wish for what will be another excellent production.
